Feature (2) Evi PSALTOU & team ANOMIA: the dancer’s body, the choreographic everyday
專題二:舞者的身體,穿透日常的舞動:簡介希臘實驗舞蹈藝術群體「無規範」

ANOMIA was created in 2017 as an open platform for collaboration between artists based in Athens, with the aim of developing short films, video dance films and performances.
Nowadays, the multidimensional work of ANOMIA (short films, performances, dance workshops, theoretical research, conferences etc)  explores embodied experience as an expanded practice which pushes the boundaries between different forms of expression, while seeking and developing social and cultural identity.

Constantly moving in the osmosis of theory and practice, ANOMIA investigates the social character of the art of dance, brings attention to otherness and the unknown, by composing heterogeneous groups in terms of their socio-cultural background and puts the materiality of the human body at the center of interest.

ANOMIA’s moving image works have been awarded at the Loikka Dance Film Festival (2017, 2018) and nominated and presented at festivals in Athens, Syros, Lincolnshire and Helsinki, and more.

Orgasp, short film, produced by ANOMIA and Balkans Beyond Borders, explores the boundaries of the body as well as the relationship between the human and the urban element under social distancing conditions.

The work brings to the screen the mechanical sounds and the fragmentary images of a familiar place, the city where we have used to wander, but in an unfamiliar condition.
Through a period of extreme social deprivation, experienced during the pandemic, the body developed survival strategies through fragments of pleasure and mediated communication. While a falsified perception of reality remains as embodied memory to simulate the future, what new ways could we adopt to resist this altered reality?

In this video-dance trilogy (Coated, In my I, Erosion), ANOMIA focuses on the subject of consciousness, identity and self/other relations, pondering upon their boundaries, their mutual reliance, their differences and upon the numerous possibilities of recognition. Two beings, move, transfer and shift by and in front of a sharp cinematic gaze and, as they walk the continuum between the real and the surreal, they try to construct themselves, their identities and their desires. As the boundaries between the Self and the non-Self are fluid and perforated, the art of coexistence becomes the most critical factor of existence. A coexistence that is fragile, however, as its discovery leads back to the discovery of the Self and of the Other, that is, to an endless relationship of repetition and redefinition.

“Coated”
1. To provide or cover with a coat
2. To cover with a layer

“In my I”
What happens when the space between the One, the Self and the Other seize to exist? When the only thing left is the gaze?

“Erosion”
If to coexist means to balance off axis, slightly moved from yourself, then actuality depends on all the possible variations of being. Unlocking this state of potential reality might leave you even more vulnerable when faced with the predominant perception of little or no deviation.
