This is the documentation of a few minutes of the making of a wood sculpture – imitating a Katsuobushi (dried Bonito), a traditional ingredient in Japanese cooking… The process was pure and simple. We, the shooting and production team, seems focused, but being aware of it, our minds drifted, again and again.

Through composite images, the author meditates on the multiple worlds connected by farming and the various lives that sprout. She also cites the American marine biologist Rachel Carson whose writings in the 1960s had fused environmental protection movements. The Day before the Silent Spring further asks how else we can act before ecological and social crises lead to complete destruction, whereas the tipping point(s) may have already arrived.

The lonesome spring is approaching. We yearn to sing freely and migrate like birds, but the price of staying alive remains a mystery. Farmers, like their crops, used to live with the land. Some of them, however, are uprooted and rely on their intuition to flow steadily in the sky, just to prevent themselves from falling back onto the soil.

It is an unsettling field in and out. Could nature articulate the true self by provoking our emotions?
